The partnership between FAMU and Optum Rx isn’t just about handing out scholarships; it’s about building a better future for healthcare. Through this program, students in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (CoPPS/IPH) receive financial support to help them succeed. This support makes it possible for more students from different backgrounds to become pharmacists, better prepared to care for people in all communities with compassion, understanding, and cultural awareness.

The partnership has been a game-changer for FAMU pharmacy students. As one student

It has given me the chance to learn from experienced professionals and develop the skills I need to provide culturally competent care.”

With its positive impact on the community and benefiting students, this partnership is helping to address healthcare disparities and ensure that patients receive care tailored to their individual needs. The increase in diversity in the pharmacy profession is a key factor in those effort.

The FAMU and Optum Rx demonstrates what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose: to build an effective healthcare system that understands and respects the cultures and communities it serves.  As the Dean of the CoPPS/IPH, noted, “We are thrilled to partner with Optum Rx on this initiative. It aligns perfectly with our mission to educate and train the next generation of pharmacists to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.”

As healthcare continues to evolve, the partnership between FAMU and Optum Rx is helping lead the way. By supporting diversity, inclusion, and care that respects patients’ cultural backgrounds, we’re laying the foundation for a fairer and more effective system, one where every patient feels seen, understood, and properly cared for.
