August 28, 2025

Shaw University is proud to continue its partnership with The James Patterson Family Foundation, founded by acclaimed author and philanthropist James Patterson, for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Through a $75,000 gift, the foundation will fund 10 scholarships valued at $7,500 each to support Shaw students in their academic pursuits.

Shaw University President Dr. Paulette R. Dillard expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support.

“The James Patterson Family Foundation’s generosity directly impacts our students’ ability to focus on their studies, explore their passions, and prepare for meaningful careers,” Dillard said. “This partnership reflects a shared commitment to education, opportunity, and the next generation of leaders.”

The scholarships are designed to help reduce financial barriers and support students with an interest in writing, teaching, and storytelling. Each recipient will receive $7,500 to advance their academic journey.

Patterson established The James Patterson Family Foundation to promote literacy, encourage creative expression, and expand educational opportunities. This renewed gift continues his longstanding support of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and their students.
